Lumea Living Co-Founders Sarah Gerber and Jen Rowe worked together on a closet organization Vancouver project for style writer and editor Natalie Langston. Natalie was preparing to welcome her third child and wanted her primary closet to work more efficiently for the season ahead. Her existing system offered a strong foundation — thoughtful built-ins, good bones — but over time the space had become overfilled and harder to maintain. The goal was not simply to tidy what was there, but to rethink how the space functioned day to day.

Closet Organization Vancouver: Where Every Project Begins

The first step in any closet organization project is editing, not adding. Before a single new product is introduced, Lumea Living works through the existing contents with intention — reviewing every hanging section, drawer, and shelf to identify what is actually being used, what has been forgotten, and what is simply taking up space.

In Natalie’s closet, this foundational edit created immediate breathing room. Unused pieces were removed, duplicates were cleared, and the remaining wardrobe was assessed for how it would need to work in the months ahead. This is where every Lumea Living project begins: clarity before containment.

Creating zones that reflect real routines

Even well-designed custom closet systems can feel constrained as life changes. With a new baby arriving, Natalie’s closet would need to support late-night routines and quick wardrobe transitions — not just look organized, but genuinely perform under pressure.

The space already had thoughtful built-ins, but several areas were underutilized while others were working harder than necessary. Lumea Living’s approach to home organization begins by observing how a space is actually used — then adjusting its structure to support real everyday life, not an idealized version of it.

Each zone was reassigned with purpose: everyday essentials moved into the most accessible areas, seasonal and less-used items repositioned higher up, and the overall flow of the closet oriented around how Natalie actually moves through her mornings.

Rethinking the layout without a renovation

Rather than adding more storage pieces, the focus was on repositioning what Natalie already owned. One section originally designed for handbags offered more capacity than she needed. Instead of leaving it partially empty, the vertical dividers were repurposed to neatly stack folded sweaters — a simple structural adjustment that created meaningful additional storage without touching a single built-in.

This is one of the most consistent findings across Lumea Living’s Vancouver home organization projects: the right layout change almost always outperforms a new product purchase.

Small changes with significant impact

One of the most effective updates was also the simplest. Replacing bulky wooden hangers with slim, uniform hangers immediately created additional hanging capacity while giving the closet a cleaner, more cohesive visual rhythm. The difference in both function and appearance is immediate.

Inside the drawers, custom dividers gave smaller items a defined home — because when everything has a clear place, maintaining order over time becomes effortless rather than effortful. The top two dresser drawers were also thoughtfully repurposed as a discreet changing station, a practical addition for those early months with a newborn when convenience matters most.

A closet designed for real life

The visual transformation was significant. But the real measure of success was how naturally the closet supported Natalie’s daily routines in the weeks that followed. Clear categories, consistent hangers, and a layout built around her actual habits created a space that felt lighter, calmer, and genuinely easier to maintain..
