Power of the pantry: Why a thoughtfully organized pantry transforms your daily routine
Before Lumea Living officially launched, House&Home had already recognized our work for its thoughtful, design-forward approach to pantry and kitchen organization. In the 2021 Kitchens & Baths special issue, Co-Founder Jen Rowe shared her perspective on one of the most quietly transformative spaces in the home: the pantry.
The article highlighted that a well-organized pantry does more than look good. When designed intentionally, it supports daily life, reduces friction, saves time, and brings calm to one of the kitchen’s hardest-working zones.
At the heart of the feature is a philosophy that still defines our work today: organization supports real life. Instead of imposing rigid systems, Jen emphasized creating pantry solutions that reflect how a household actually functions—what they buy, how they cook, and who uses the space.
Edit before you organize
The first step is editing. Take stock of what you own and remove items you no longer use. This step creates clarity and ensures that storage solutions are intentional rather than excessive.
For families, this step is particularly important, since children’s pantry items and kitchen tools can change quickly. Reducing volume first also frees up space for items that truly support how you live.
Group items by use and frequency
After editing, group similar items together. Store baking items with baking items, snacks with snacks, and breakfast supplies together.
Grouping items by use and frequency—not just category—helps you see how much space each type of item requires. This makes planning the pantry layout simpler and ensures that high-use items are easy to access.
Use clear, well-proportioned containers
Choosing the right containers makes pantry inventory visible at a glance. Clear, proportional containers prevent overstocking and help everyone in the household know where items belong.
This approach keeps the pantry functional and visually calm, while making it easy to grab what you need quickly.
Design intuitive layouts for every user
Design layouts that make sense for all household members. Place frequently used items at eye level and less-used items on higher or lower shelves.
Accessibility matters just as much as aesthetics. When items are easy to reach and organized logically, maintaining order becomes effortless.
Organization that supports your life
Thoughtful pantry organization is one of the simplest ways to reduce daily stress and improve kitchen function. A well-planned pantry may be tucked behind closed doors, but its impact is felt every day.
This feature reflects an approach we continue to build on at Lumea Living today. Whether we’re organizing a pantry, managing a full-home transformation, or supporting clients through a move, our focus remains the same: creating spaces that feel calm, functional, and deeply considered.
